Annie Leibovitz: Nudes
|
| “Nudes” is a series of ten monumental, classical studies of the female form. The subjects are dancers with the Mark Morris Dance Group and athletes, whose lithe musculature recalls Greek statues from antiquity. Measuring 42” x 35,” each Iris print is printed in a limited edition of 25. Leibovitz chose a palette of rich, subued colors printed in soft, grainy textures on archival watercolor papers. The timeless elegance and grand scale of these photographs make them Leibovitz’s most beautiful work to date. The exibit runs through March 15, 2001. Celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz continues to be one of the most exciting, entertaining, and original photographers of popular culture. Beginning in the 1970s she began photographing celebrities in the pop and music industries, and then expanded to film, politics, art, sports, and literary personalities. Her work has been extensively featured in publications like Rolling Stone, Time, Life, The New York Times Magazine, Esquire, Vogue, and Vanity Fair. Foreign publications include Paris-Match, Bunte, Stern, Photo, Amica, and the London Sunday Times Magazine. Now a superstar in her own right, Leibovitz continues to expand her artistic vision in ever new and insightful bodies of work. Annie Leibovitz is the recipient of the American Society of Magazine Photographers awards for Best Photograph and Photographer of the Year. She also won the Photographer of the Year Award from the International Center of Photography. With her retrospective show in 1991, “Annie Leibovitz: Photographs 1970-1990,” she became the first woman to be exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C. Andrew Smith Gallery also represents Annie Leibovitz’s most popular images, including Lance Armstrong, 1999, Muhammad Ali, 1996, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, 1980, Ella Fitzgerald, 1988, Jodie Foster, 1988, Paloma Picasso, 1982, Sam Shepherd, 1984, and many others. Prices increase as the limited edition photographs sell.
